Synverita was created with the intention to exploit computational methods to automatically analyze and interpret the biomedical literature. Using recent advances in machine learning and analytics, our goal is to generate an unprecedented understanding of the medical literature and the linkages of concepts within it. Ultimately, providing inferences and hypotheses that may not be obvious to a human expert.

Science proceeds by scientists assimilating their acquired knowledge to generate an idea of a likely process or concept – in other words an hypothesis. How a scientist develops a hypothesis is not exactly clear, but presumably it is derived from an incongruous mixture of inspiration, perspiration and serendipity. Advances in Computer science now provides a tangible way to supplement this process. Using natural language processing and machine learning techniques our intention is to model this process and automatically generate hypothesis that can be realized from an computational platform that has the advantage of being able to read and process the entire medical literature.
